CloudSigma powers Le Camping startup Skimm!

CloudSigma has partnered with Le Camping, a Parisian startup accelerator powered by Silicon Sentier, and its startup participant Skimm!, a mobile payment system provider. Chosen for its unprecedented flexible and customizable IaaS platform, Le Camping and Skimm! found that CloudSigma enables companies to deliver the most optimal performance while still maintaining strategic control and flexibility over their deployments – something market giants like Amazon are unable to provide.

Date: 15 Jun 2012

“Before being introduced to CloudSigma by Le Camping, we had evaluated many providers, including Amazon, and none were able to meet our needs, mainly because they were all too inflexible,” said Julien Dauphant, CTO, Skimm! “We wanted to be able to work with lots of different technologies, and deploy the latest developments and most updated software, but Amazon, among others, was far too restrictive in terms of deployments and resource packages. We needed a platform that we could configure and update ourselves; one that could evolve with our changing needs and future growth. Only CloudSigma’s IaaS offering allowed for that kind of flexibility and customer control.”

CloudSigma’s IaaS platform gives companies access to the most advanced public cloud on the market, with pay-as-you-go pricing, full scalability, 10 GigE networking as standard, cutting-edge solid-state drive (SSD) storage, and completely open software and networking layers. CloudSigma provides customers with the flexibility to migrate to the cloud using the software and operating systems of their choice, with full control over their data and no risk of vendor lock-in. These features make CloudSigma an ideal public cloud platform for startup companies like Skimm! that often have quickly changing IT needs associated with rapid growth.

“CloudSigma is an ideal provider for Skimm! and the rest of our startup community looking to work in the cloud,” said Alice Zagury, manager, Le Camping. “Not only is its IaaS offering extremely flexible and adaptive, but CloudSigma is also eager to continually improve its platform and collaborate with its customers – something bigger providers like Amazon won’t do. What’s more, with CloudSigma’s unbundled resources and utility pricing, startups in our program don’t risk wasting budget on over-provisioning; they pay for exactly what they use, achieving the best price for performance possible.”

“If we were to experience enormous, unexpected growth tomorrow, CloudSigma would be able to handle our needs in a matter of seconds with the exact level of resource provisioning we need,” said Valentin Lautier, GD and co-founder, Skimm!. “That’s the kind of reassurance we need as a startup. It allows us to focus on innovating our core product, knowing our infrastructure is in an extremely reliable, secure environment. The fact of the matter is, if we didn’t have CloudSigma, we wouldn’t be able to move forward and target bigger retail chains with thousands of points of sale throughout France. Our customers don’t see CloudSigma’s benefits directly, but we wouldn’t even have customers without CloudSigma.”

“Startup companies like Skimm! are able to derive great benefit from our public cloud platform,” said Patrick Baillie, CEO and co-founder, CloudSigma. “The same level of innovation we deliver for huge organizations, including CERN, ESA and EMBL, is what we deliver for all of our customers. For instance, we have 10 GigE networking throughout our cloud as standard, which far outstrips the requirements for most startups, but, as a result, offers unparalleled performance. Being a part of Le Camping’s ecosystem for startups introduces us to some of today’s leading innovators, including Skimm!, which fits with our overall corporate vision of innovation and technological advancement.”
